If anyone is interested I'm willing to redesign the PT snowplow using ProE (3d cad) to be a V-plow like the boss plow if some one can provide the pictures and some dimensions of the current plows. My idea is to start with a PT plow or maybe Han's cheap snowplow, cut it in the center and add the needed components. When done I'd post the drawings, BOM, estimated cost, and the group could in a sense conduct the design review on it.

Welcome aboard johara1, I think you will find a lot of good information on this site.

great idea Schultzi! if everything goes right with your design maybe we can make it so it can be both "Straight, V-plow and Angled". that would be one of my dreams come through. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

i see myself with a mini articulated (Boss)plow going down the road /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifBoss plow

Yup Hans it would work like the Boss plows...straight, > , and <.

Thanks for the links. I've started using some of the dimensions off the Steiner Link. Right now, I have to figure out what to use for the hinge, I haven’t found an off-the-shelf steel pipe thick enough yet. I was thinking .5"ID and .75"OD, maybe an 1/8" bigger. I like how Steiner angled the ends of their plow out, it resembles one of the big boys you see on an Oshkosh truck up north.

if you need a heavy continuous hinge,i buy it from industrial hardware in akron, ohio.it comes in alum.,s.s.and unplated steel.order by thickness up to .187,open width up to8",pin dia. to.500 and knuckle length of 2".they come in 72" and 96"length.#1-800-682-8900 get a cat. lot of good stuff /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I ended up finding one from my favorite catalog: McMaster Carr. It was availible in plan steel, 24" sections, .5" pin diameter, and .180" wall thickness
Thanks

Here is a start on the plow itself. Since I don't have one, I made many guesses. I'll probably continue making the plow as it's own assembly, but I still want to make a PT version. Therefore, if anyone can post some close up pics of the backside of their plow that would be great. Right now, I haven't designed that part yet.

So far the specs are:
40deg back angle
30 forward angle
Straight, and left or right 30 deg

Schultz, why dont you just hit the "v-plow design" button that all you injuneers think us cad jockeys have on the keyboard. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif just jokin

In my research of plows, I noticed this C-plow shown in the link C-plow , anyone seen one like this? It's pretty neat.

Also I've got two designs going one with a trip blade and the other where the whole plow pivots to prevent as Charlie said from "being pole vaulted" over the frozen obstacles. Which is better?

I've seen the C plow at a local plow dealer. They said it is for back dragging away from garage doors, etc... Didn't see it in operation.

Although the C Plow looks slick, I doubt it really adds much to the PT plow with rubber strip. The key to back dragging away from doorways, etc. is visibility, and we PT types have that better than any other snow moving vehicle I've seen.. I have found that I can drop the blade within one inch of a doorway, and back drag as cleanly as if I were pushing. The rubber isn't at precisely the same angle, but does a good job.
Despite the claim on the website, I don't see the C Plow as a substitute for a loader. For moving deep snow or piles, the loader's the answer.
The rougher the area underneath, the more the need for blade trip. My area is pretty smooth, so I seldom pole vault with the rubber lip. I think I'd like the springs on Hans's reclaimed "cheap" plow, however.
