The PT backhoe design is quite different from that of most other vendors. Basically a square tube frame with the hydraulics bolted on the sides. Simple.

The tapered frame designs of other brands are pretty much all consistent and beefier looking, though the metal may be thinner. Much more difficult and expensive to manufacture and assemble.

How is it that the PT design is rated the same or greater working capacity when the hoe itself actually looks quite a bit smaller, even on the larger PT units?

As far as I know, the hydraulics are located on the top of the square tubing, except for the swing cylinder.

What are you comparing the PT hoe with?

Not referring to the cylinder locations, I meant on top in the previous post. Comparing the PT-2425 hoe, 2500lbs bucket curl compared to the BX-23 hoe with 1936lbs bucket curl force.

I don't know if you looked at the PT-2445 hoe, but it has a break out force of 3,500. It has all to do with the size of the cylinder, and PSI.
