Now our private messages are public knowledge... :)

I disavow and knowledge of anything privately spoken about that my be construed as potentially impactful or responsible...

My name is fishpick and I approve of this message on election night... Now - if you are reading this and have not voted - get off your duff and go make a difference!

VOTE OUT THE INCUMBANTS - without regard for party lines!

(man, too much Fox news tonight for me...)

Some of the incumbents are good people. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Sometimes change is good, other times it is bad. Know the beliefs of the person, not what the campaign posters and advertisements say and vote for those people that most closely are in line with your beliefs. Doesn't matter if you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green Party, etc., the most important thing is to vote. Dusty, voting consistently since Rex was a pup.

No, leave all the incumbents in, without regard for party lines. If you vote them out, they draw their retirement, and the new guy is going to be eligible for a retirement someday, too. It makes no difference who is in office...they're all the same.

I heard on the news tonight that Ted Lamont spent 10 million dollars of his own money to run his campaign against Incumbent Sen. Joseph Lieberman and he lost. Someone, please explain to me why someone would spend 10 million dollars of their own money to get a job that pays maybe $200,000 a year? In 6 years, he will only get $1,200,000 and they take taxes out of that amount.... Senators do pay income taxes don't they?????? Dusty

Dusty-

Cost of Campaign $10 Million

Lost wages ( Senate pays less than private sector) $2 Million

Being Called Senator- Priceless!

Ego can be a terrible thing!

You forgot to include the millions in kickback and back door deals winning the election would generate. The simple cost/benefit analysis you just performed suggests, and I agree, that there is much more to gain by winning such an election. And remember, the 10 million was only the amount Mr. Lamont put in. How much did the DNC contribute?

I agree, vote all incumbants out of office every election. Its called term limits. One poll a number of years ago indicated that the American public agreed on term limits more than any political issue in recent history, to the tune of 87%, which is huge and crosses all political and socio-economic lines.

So, its a democracy right? And our elected leaders are supposed to represent the will of the people right? When 87% of a country wants something that is otherwise perfectly legal and sound, then why don't our leaders make term limits a reality? Because the vestiges of representative democracy in this country are barely noticeable anymore. This country is ruled by an untouchable and relatively small group of people and the desires of the people have little to do with anything any longer.

One might ask that if the people want term limits why don't they oust the incumbents every two terms in the polls? Well, the incumbants have far too much money and power by the time they have been in office 2, 4 or 6 years. And they typically only have one other person to beat and all too often that person is barely the lesser of two evils. Just another wolf in blue or red sheeps clothing.

Term limits folks. It solves a tremendous amount of the political problems we face in this country. When this nation was founded NO ONE that was instrumental in its birth EVER intended for the public service of this country as a senator, congressman, judge or president to be the path to unlimited wealth and power. In fact, by most accounts it was intended to be a duty and a sacrifice. Seems kind of funny now doesn't it?

Sorry for the rant.

NOT a rant - so much as facts...

So - my question is - how do we, the people, get the ball rolling to get these limits in place.

Honestly. Let's start something here more than tractoring!

BTW, I didn't mean to start such a ruckish... But I couldn't email these guys because it was disallowed... So I thought a nice quick post would take care of it...

I tried deleting it, but that tooo is disallowed. So, for those whose time I wasted sorry..

But, the guys did in fact reply.. So Thanks all..

Also,, One huge fix is to let the political parties get the same retirement plan we all get. How can we ban together to get this changed. Let them all have their own 401K like most of us, let them get Social Security, like the rest of us and then lets see who really wants to be in office.. Not to mention get some things done...

If I was promised a retirement regardless of my performance or number of years in office, I can honestly say I would probably not perform at my best level. Although, I'm very up on having people be accountable,,, I'm sure my decisions could be swayed as well.

So sad I have seen and heard so much from the canidates more in the last few weeks then I have in the last 2 years.

Very disappointed...

One ole boy told me something when I was bitc&*(ng about my property taxes... "You got two options,,,,, Either run for office and change it, or SHUT UP and get a better job.... I did the first, it didn't work,, I Shut up and got a better job"

That just really disturbs me.. But it is sooooo true.....

Well, sad to say, but we can't. They have to change it and what chance do you suppose there is of that happening.

There should be no retirement plan whatsoever for office holders. That would encourage more turnover--get out in the private sector and earn a living like the rest of us. Some (most?) of them never have.

Right, being a statesman was never meant to be a career. Someone suited only for being a politician is not well suited for anything, particularly leadership or statesmanship.
