Oh..change the view form map to Satellite if you know your land area. Otherwise you may wish to leave it as maps for a first try.

I did a quick check & Grand Forks county has a GIS property display system available for free.

The easy way to see your property boundaries superimposed on an aerial photo is to go to the county website, do a property search for your property and then click on the "GIS property view" option. Once in the GIS viewer you have various options to change scale, calculate lengths and areas and to generate PDF copies of the results.

This is the county website link: Welcome | Grand Forks County
The link to property search is in a box at the left under the choice "County Links".
Here is a shortcut link directly to the property search page: http://www.gfcounty.nd.gov/?q=node/59

From a look at the results of a sample "John Smith" property search, it seems that property lines on road frontages are offset to reflect right of way (there is no offset between adjacent property parcels).

I used similar systems quite a bit when we were looking at properties in NC prior to moving back after retirement. Some counties charge for access, some don't. It helped a lot in winnowing down the choices before driving down from WV to look at the most likely candidates.

I sent the link over to some realtor buds and they said to say thanks... They're always mapping plots out for folks.

Use an address or local land mark. Then pull the map to your location. We did not have an address the first two years. So I used the closet mail box number.
Also you can simply list the road, road and zip or just the Zip,
Jim
