Problem with MTD 25 ton splitter - 4 second delay to 2nd stage

That's a nasty looking set of seals. Looks as if the Jinma one was overheated or else a real lousey set of seals.......Mike

The guy in Texas that sales the Jinma parts told me it was seals when I said steering problems and the new one looked nothing like the OEM ones. Symptoms was turn the steering wheel 5 complete turn per mile to stay on the road. lousy was the description of the whole tractor. On the Case I just ordered new O Rings and did all three cylinders. Symptoms on that one was when I let go of the lift valve it went down just as fast as it went up.

Is the engine running at 3600rpm? As someone said before, it is normal for there to be a delay. If your engine is running slower, that might be stretching out the normal delay by a few extra seconds.

Tommy, Affordable Tractor. I've dealt with him a couple of time, great crew to work with both him and his son.

lousy was the description of the whole tractor.
Didn't like?. I recently sold my Jinma 204, only problem I had was the main cam bearing was turned form day one and there was no oil getting to the top end. Once I repaired that, there was nothing of any note wrong with it. I ended up selling it because my left hip is screwed and I couldn't clutch anymore....Mike

I think I had to work on it way to much, and it felt like it was always poor workmanship or defective parts, I liked the tractor and it was easy to work on but I worked on it more then I used it. In Indiana they were sold everywhere under many names. I bought mine broke down for $300 and my friend bought his broke down for $500 but his had the loader , His is all engine problems yet to this day, mine was a head gasket then not one engine problem after that, just everything else. Reminded me of my AMF Harley Davidson.

so ..back to my situation...

The filter and oils were replaced..what came out of it was nice clear oil and no contaminates in the bottom of the tank. I probably didn't need to change, but the problem didn't go away.

its odd to me because whereas the thing looks like new..it was run each season to process a small amount of wood. The previous owner wasn't a woodchuck burning a ton of cords per season. My other splitter..same exact vintage with a ton of time on it.. works precisely as it should. The fact that I have to stare at it to make it finish its job is what bothers me. Its like its got a case of the "uuhhhhs"

do i merely have to locate a gauge with what range. should it be fluid filled etc? and can i find the fittings at say -- home cheapo?

am i curious as to the fitting that might slip that was mentioned earlier connecting the motor to pump. The pump does look a bit oil coated but that could be due to oil changes.

thanks, Bob

You'll want hydraulic fittings, not black iron so HD is probably out of the question, a fluid filled gauge 0 to 4-5Kpsi. 'T' it in to the main pressure line so what you'll probably need is a 1/2" T, 1/2 x 1/4 bushing for the gauge and whatever fittings you need to feed thru................M

can you service the pump at all? i.e. the unloader valve?
i do seem to recall that the pump was making a strange noise at idle - kind of "hissy". can you take the pumps apart or no?

Maybe I misunderstood, but it sounds like it is going into 2nd stage (after a 4 second delay) as soon as it makes contact with the wood. It should only go to 2nd stage on the toughest parts of some logs. It should split most logs while in 1st .

it starts into the split partially, loads down for 4 seconds or better until the second stage kicks in and then it finishes. as i mentioned earlier, on full return it also takes 4 seconds for the handle to kickback.

anyone have a site that i can buy those gauges..lots of companies but don't know what ones are crap and which ones are not.
