Ok so I need to add some hy-gard transmission and hydraulic oil to my tractor JD 2355 (1st tractor) a hydraulic fitting cracked and spilled some fluid (everything is good other than the fluid lose, and cracked fitting nothing bad happened). So I read the manual and found out which one I need, which is regular hy-gard so I called the nearest dealer to me and they quoted me $96 for a 5 gallon bucket (just trying to have some extra on hand just in case) I read a few older posts from 2010 and they mentioned the 5 gallon bucket price to be around $55 which even with inflation over the past 4 years I can't see how the price went up $40+ on top of that.

I have yet to call around to more dealers, but I will later on today, so with that said how much do you pay for hy-gard oil and where are you located?

I had a bunch of things to do yesterday so I did not do much research I checked the Deere website and did not see a listed price, which led me to believe is a dealer sets price kind of deal, anyway just wanted to check and see how much you guys pay for it and see if the price I was quoted was right.

2 years ago I needed fluid for my backhoe. NH dealer quoted me $73 a pail. He also said the Hygard would work but when I checked the price Hygard was more expensive.

Last week I was at a different NH dealer and I asked about the price of fluid and it had gone up to $96. What I ended up doing 2 years ago was, going through a friend that worked for Cat. Their lubricant specialist recommends a Mobil product that I got at employee cost of $45.

So your dealer is probably right on the cost and inflation has taken over. Before this thread is over it will be moved to the unfriendly politics forum.

Oh man I did not want to make a controversy with this thread, just figure out how much the hy-gard fluid is in different parts of the country, hopefully people limit themselves to list the price. To any mod that might be reading this, I mean no harm, nor looking for any negative light on this thread, just a honest question about the price, I'm new to owning a tractor and still figuring out a lot of things I cannot find answers for.

Man you got me there. You never know people these days find ways to turn everything personal, political, or religious.

I'm gonna say that price is in line with what's being charged for name brand fluid. When it's time to change the fluid in my Workmaster , I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Spend the money for the namebrand or go with something from TSC.

I just bought a 5 gal pail of regular hygard for around $60 i believe? I run through it pretty quick with the QD on the tractors for some reason. Make sure you are getting the price of the regular and not the ultra or whatever the premium blend is.

There are also choices in between that can save you money but be a cut above the TSC bargain brands.

Yes the Mobil oil I bought has done well in my hoe. I had put some TSC in the front tank and got a lot of chattering til I changed it with the Mobil. Now it operates good.
