You can go to the Kubota website and build each tractor exactly how you want it.
That will get you what the list price is and you would have what the difference is between them. Should take about 10 minutes.

I just priced them out how I would want them.
The M7040 is $58,470.
The M9540 is $67,865

I already have the 7040, my brother in law bought a 9540, lot more than he needs, I was just wondering of the price difference. My 7040 does all I need, feeding cattle, bushhoging and mowing. I my country 70 hp is about all you need, unless you are doing heavy work, which I am not. Is a lot more fuel efficient also.

Good point. Many people buy too big and think about fuel usage later. Unless your are running big machinery, you can get by with less HP and select by size, weight and features.

The m7040 does all I want, with two 5x5 rolls of hay in sixth gear up a steep hill it barely changes engine tones, handles loader vg, balances out well and is stable on hills with bushog. It seems very fuel efficient.

Not sure why you don't just ask your brother in law what he paid??

I priced a M7040SU and later bought a M9540. I paid $7500 more. The M8540 and M9540 are a lot more tractor than the M7040. If you have a need for it, then the price difference is insignificant. If not, then it's pretty expensive.

If he's happy with his M9540 and you are happy with your M7040, then I'd say you both paid exactly the right price!!!

Whatever works for you, my father in law bought a 70 HP tractor against my advice and less than a month later he traded it in on an 80 HP model.

If I had needed a heavier tractor with 100 hp, I would have bought a John Deere, this fits my needs, just rides rough is the only complaint I have so far.

If you're still interested in the difference, I purchased a new cab M7040 HDC-1 4x4 with 1153 loader, ballast in rear tires, and brush guard for $39,900 in September 2009. In December 2011, I bought a new M8540 HDC-1 4x4 with 1353 loader, liquid ballast in rears, cast centers, and brush guard for $46,000. I know the prices have gone up for both, but the spread between the 2 is still about the same. Now the M8560 and M9960 have gone up about 5,000 each from the M8540 and M9540. Hope this helps.

I bought a M7040, 4wd, fel, canopy, third function valve, rear hydralics, 6 foot land pride cutter and post hole auger for $38,000 tax included Oct 2012 in Alabama
