Have any of you had experience with a powered landscape rake. Landpride builds one and I was just wondering if they're any better than the unpowered version.

ig, i HAVE AN 8' gLENMAC/hARLEY POWERED RAKE AND CAN TELL YOU THAT OTHER THEN THE TRACTOR, IT IS THE MOST USEFUL PIECE OF EQUIPMENT YOU CAN OWN. tHE POWERED RAKES ARE INCREDIBLE. Opps, sorry just realized I had caps lock on. I think once one has a powered rake, it will find many uses. Tags on this board has one as well. I'm sure Landprides would be fairly comparable to the Harley. A very, very useful piece of equipment. My favorite. Rat...

I am looking seriously at the "72'' 17 series" from Landpride. I think the #'s are correct. The Landpride is one awesome looking rake. I know Harley Rakes have 2 different versions, one that does much better according to others. I think everyone likes the one with round carbide dimples. The Landpride has this similar type of design as well as large tires which I like. I was quoted a price of $4900.00.

it beats to have to get off whenever you need to move the rake from one angle to another. leveling becomes a cake walk because you can move material around in many direction in the same passage.

this attachment is the dream for a manual york rake owner like me. one of these days we will get one.

I have rented one a couple of times and agree that they are very effective and versatile,If you can do it get it.

Do you still have to do hand raking before seeding. I want to start a one man yard finish business one of these days and want to use machinery to do the work instead of my tired old body.

after we use a rock hound we very seldom have to hand rake.

if you do not want to buy or rent a rock hound at first, as to keep your overhead down. do a good job at raking the area with a york rake type (non powered). pick up the rows of rocks with a coal or manure fork ... this way again you do not have to do too much hand raking.

good luck in your business start up

I have a Harley pro 6 rake and I have just installed a carbide tipped roller on compared to replacing it with the stock bar roller and I am waiting for my new machine to come in to try it,in the meantime I have been using a friends Cat skid steer w/a harley rake,it is much different than using one on a three point hitch but it works extremely well.If you have the doe to get one it is well worth it,just the time saved in labor is worth it and the things you can do w/it are just about endless, from grading driveways to stripping sod,or just putting in an everyday lawn and once you get the hang of runnin' it the only hand work is to drag a grading rake over the caster wheel marks and you really don't need to do that,it just makes the finished product look that much better.

Rat,
The roller with the pins seems to dig in and loosen the soil better where as the roller(as I'm sure you know)w/the bars seems to glaze the soil when starting out, also with the pins it seems to grab rocks and pull them out instead of riding up and over and it has a tilling effect on existing sod,it chews it up into tiny pieces and beats all the soil off of it.I'm not sure there are any drawbacks yet,the only one was the price of the new roller $1400- but you can also buy the tips individually for $8.50 ea and there are about 114 of the buggers on a 6' roller, plus you have to weld them on and thats why I went for an entirely new roller.I have some friends w/this setup and their rakes are about 3-4 years old and they still have plenty of wear left.I am also in the process of building side plates so I'll be able to carry more material without it running off the sides. If your roller needs replacing seriously consider the pins.

I replaced my old roller with the new carbide tipped one this week......just a little heads up to anyone attempting this "little" project, set aside at least one full day to swap rollers.I put mine up on a lift to work on it at eye level and still took more time than I had anticipated,if anyone does attempt it I would suggest leaving the rake on the machine and lift it up as high as possible. Also make sure all the bearings and keepers slide on and off the shaft easily before you install the roller,it'll make life much easier in the end.Now if I just had a machine to run it on I'd tell you guys how it works.....but thats a whole other story.
