have a 3185 ( got for free) I have it running pretty good. The mower deck, I can turn the drive shaft by hand real easy. When its running I can drive it around no problem. Turn on the mower deck its still O.K. but once you start driving it seems like the power drops alittle and when you get into any small grass, it really looses power.( my sears will out cut it. I checked the govenor an it seems like its adjusted right. Someone said I might have a hydrulic problem.
Any help on this would be nice.

I've been reading lately about some issues with the fuel pump on the 3000 series. You pump may be weak causing your symptoms. I think several of the guys put a electric fuel pump on theirs to fix the problem.

Another thing check the bearings in the PTO clutch. Mine was acting like that and 1 bearing was starting to go bad.

What size deck do you have? A 3185 will bog down in heavy grass with a 48" deck, particularly if its a mulching setup, though it should spin it easily at other times. Spark plugs look OK? Throttle linkage free and opening fully? Air cleaner been cleaned or replaced? I'm just running through the obvious stuff, you may already have addressed all this, just thought I'd start somewhere.

Someone gave you a 3185 free? That's quite a find!

It wasn't taken care of. I have change all the fluids,spark plugs,mower deck can be turned by hand. Had hyd. valve rebuilt. I'm going to check the pto bearing as suggested by one of the other gentlemen. I do apreciate all the answers. Thanks

Sometimes the "free" things in life are the most expensive.Might be that the engine is worn out.I'd do a compression test to see if it's worth repairing.Good luck...
