That is why I suggested try the cat 5/6 we have a couple of runs at work over 700f at 10mbps duplex and cant see an issue.

Definatally have the power company engineer come out for an onsite evaluation. It is free and you have nothing to lose.
The $60/month does seem obsurd. I know around here, adding another drop isnt that expensive, and there isnt a $60/month charge. You really need to ask a lot more questions of your power company. They will be able to tell you the appropriate size cable given the length. And around here, we also use the URD direct burial cable. That is how the power companies no it in this area. NO conduit either. But I think they are requier a minimum of 24" deep.
Ask them how they normally install underground. And if you decide to di it yourself, do what they do.:thumbsup:
And I will also vote for 100A service. This gives you the ability to expand in the future. It isnt going to add near the cost to do it now as it would later:thumbsup:
ALSO, check with your power company on the price of whatever size URD they recomend. I have found with my power company, that I can buy 100amp or 200amp URD cheaper than lowes or menards. And I can even get it at cost because my mother works there
But even the price they charge everyone else is about .30/ft cheaper. Just an example, 100amp URD, which I believe is 2-2-4 AL, is 1.48/ft at menards. It can be bought from the power company @1.18/ft if you are on their lines, and I can get it at cost which is .91/ft. And the difference is similar on their 200amp URD, which I believe is 4/0-4/0-2/0
