I have a 2072 cub cadet I puchased in 1989, and the power steering is leaking hydrolic fluid through the shaft under the steering wheel. What steps and how hard is it to remove the steering and replace the seals that are causing the leak? It doesn't leak when you first run the tractor, but if you shut it off and restart a short time later, it builds pressure and blows it through the shaft.

I repaired one of the steering master cylinders about 10 years ago on a JD 400. All I can say is it's fun...fun...fun....
There are a whole bunch of seals inside the thing when you take it apart, and a whole bunch of parts in there that have to get back where they need to go. I recall not having too good a time with this thing, as it still leaked when I reassembled and installed it and had to do it twice. I would say unless your mechanical skills are very good, you might not want to attempt this repair yourself.
It's about a $600 item to outright replace with a new one, and maybe about $250-300 for a shop to repair it for you. The seals are cheap, but the job requires a lot of time and patience to do right.
