Just replaced an old style power steering pump with a new style power steering pump on my Ford 4000 3 cylinder. Old style had a leak but now I have no power steering. What might my problem be besides my new pump being bad. I can look inside my new pump and hydraulic does not seem to be circulating.

Integral pump/reservoirs have several different part numbers with the diffeences being relief valve settings along with some differences in the inlet/outlet fittings. Is your new pump rated for the application? And did the retailer even know what they sold you? Do you have the lines conected correctly?

I believe I have the lines on correctly. I have cracked both pressure line and return line at the valve to the point of seeing oil dripping. Didn't seem to be under pressure. May not have loosened enough to see pressure. Would valve being closed stop flow of hydraulics therefore interfering or deleting pump pressure. There is still no boiling in the pump.

At this point, I think I would pull the pump back off and check the integrity of the shaft/key/gear and nut.
