power steering leak

i have an oil leak from a leaking seal in the power steering assembly on a b2150hsd.The oil leaks from the horizontal shaft that attaches to the pitman arm.i looked at the service manual and it appears that the shaft can be removed from the opposite side of the assembly and the seal replaced ,without having to remove any other part of the assembly or the steering wheel.Has anyone tried to do it that way? tx in advance
