NO PAPER
Picture does look like gray fiber, but it's all metal
All Stainless Steel with 2 filtration
Inside; 1" tube with 1/16 holes
Outside; Fine Screen Wire, unknown mesh
Took both ends off & cleaned with brake cleaner then kerosene

That appears to me to be a wire strainer, not a paper filter, Greg. I do agree with all you said re paper filters but I don't think it applies in this case. There wouldn't be any feasible way to put a filter in the suction side of the power steering system in any event - they work better on the pressure side.

Interesting. I've had four Chinese tractors, two of which had separate PS pumps. They both used wire reinforced paper filters that mounted on the center stem of the PS reservoir. In your case, it would then seem reasonable to wash/rinse/reuse.

The suction filter on the JM200 Series is paper inside wire.

But what you say is true. Those 200 Series filters are notorious for collapsing once water soaked.

Power Steering
Oh boy, I guess good maintenance should be adhered to

greg_g; Thanks for your posts about fluids & cleaning, I think I've got this tractor in pretty good shape now, (Except for some lights)
I wouldn't have tried to wash/clean a paper or fiber filter, actually the old filter/strainer cleaned up very nice, (I should have took a picture) If I could not have cleaned it, I would have made some kind of screen strainer for temporary use

The combination of fluid change & clean the system & filter has solved my steering snag

Tractor drives & turns so much easier now
Happy, Happy, Happy
