Power Pole part II

Has anybody ever mounted anything on their power pole, or is that a no no?
I was thinking about sticking a wifi antenna up there to try and snag some of Jinman's internet. Of course then there's the problem of killing myself getting it up there, but that's another problem.

Around here almost all power poles are on the highway right-of-way and it is illegal to post anything on them. However, I have one in my backyard that I run my surveillance camera lines on and if they tell me to move my wires, I'm going to tell them that it's on my property and they have no right to have their pole there and if they don't like it they can move their pole.

One of my neighbors had a sign on a utility pole and it was in his front yard. They told him to remove the sign and he told them to remove the pole. He never heard from them again.

ive got 3 polls in my front yard carying my service. The last one put up by me.

Ive mounted stuff on them. I plan on putting up a 2x4 holding about 6 bidhouse gourds.

I have a birdhouse on the one in front of my house. I would be scared to put an antenna on it though. JC

This is the pole my power box is on, it has one of those dusk to dawn lights on it without a bulb in it. It's well within the confines of my property, so that's not an issue.

If you own the pole you can hang a light or dish on it. I had to buy a pole to set in between my house and the pole on the street. Power comes from street to my pole then underground to house. I added a 110V outlet on my pole and will add a light later.

That sure sounds unusual to me because all my experience has been that the power company will not set a pole on private property without an easement from the property owner, so you would be wasting your breath telling them to move it.

Being a electric lineman I say NO !! If someone has to climb that pole in a pair of hooks and belt and cuts out and falls into the antenna he could get hurt.In my neck of the woods our power company wants folks to keep stuff off our poles.coobie

I would have told your neighbor I will remove your electric pole and your power to.The reason power companys dont want signs with nails and garbage on there poles is that if the pole has to be climbed it can injure a lineman if he cuts out and falls into old nails,bolts,yard lights and so forth.I have been a electric lineman for many years so I can vouch for this.coobie

They may do things different in Texas but these poles are over 70 years old and they were placed on private property WITHOUT an easement.

They stopped climbing poles here 20 years ago. They won't do any work at all without a bucket truck now.

Another pole and line was set in my backyard without my permission or an easement after Katrina when a neighbor got a FEMA trailer put in his backyard and needed electric and didn't want the wires running through his yard. Being a good neighbor, I did not protest this thinking it would be temporary. Two and a half years later it is still there and the neighbor has put a shed in his backyard and wired it up so it seems that they believe this is a permanent situation.

I guess they do things different down in your neck of the woods.Since the late 1930,s-1940,s up here our power company needs easements for every pole we set,in fact we can,t even break air space going over a neighbors property to get power without both partys sighned consent.coobie

I think you will find that the reception will suffer because of the electrical interferance . EMR i think , Electro Magnetic Radiation ?
