I'll check it out.

I did end up solving part of my problem. there were lingering remains of an office 2003 install on my PC and that is what was trying to view the PPS, instead of the viewer I downloaded. However.. I'll still look at the sun version..e tc.

I don't have Power Point on my computer, but some of my family members and friends occasionally send me e-mails with things that end in .pps. So awhile back, I downloaded one of those free power point viewers (don't remember which one), but it didn't work, so I later uninstalled and deleted it. When folks send something with that .pps extension, I just delete those e-mails, but I'd still like to have a viewer if I knew which one would work.

I use WordPerfect Office Pro for all my work but I also keep OpenOffice on my machines for those times (rare) that the WordPerfect tools won't handle MS formats. OpenOffice works well I just am not ready to move from WordPerfect, have used it since DOS versions.

Bird, here is the link to Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007 from Microsoft's website. It works fine and we use it on about a hundred PCs here.

Anyone have a viewer for Windows 98?

I use openoffice. It is similar to microsoft office without outlook. You can open and save files for or from microsoft. Best of all it is free to download and use. I open powerpoint files all the time with it. Give a look into it.

Thanks, David. I downloaded it, so we'll see if it works the next time I get a .pps document via e-mail.

Well, I just realized that I still have an e-mail with such a file. And when I try to open it, I get an error message that says:
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.

So what does that mean I'm supposed to do?

Bird, after you downloaded the file: "PowerPointViewer.exe", did you double click it, to install it on your computer?

If you did, you just need to "show" your e-mail program where to "find" the program so that it can run the viewer.

Basically, you'll want to "Select the program from a List". If you get a popup box that says "Open With" at the top, you'll be doing well. If the viewer is not listed in the main part of the popup box called: "Programs", you might have to click on the "Browse..." button and locate the program file that way. (If this is the case, let me know and I can go into more detail)

Yep, I double clicked to install it, then had to click to accept their terms, then it said preparing to install, and finally "Installation Complete". Then when I double click on an attachment to an e-mail, I get the error message already mentioned. I haven't found a way to get that "Open with" message.
