Power Loss????...it's not the fuel filter

Trash in tank is always a possibility:
Blowing air bacwards from the filter line to tank will prove this out.
i.e., if running OK for a reasonable time B4 acting up will confirm this as the trash will not settle immediately thus allowing a decent run time, but if acting up again it shure points to trash.

Another possibility is a blocked tank vent.
Air needs to get into the tank to allow the fuel to flow out otherwise you create a vacume and hence no or poor fuel flow.
Cracking open the filler cap will prove this out, even running with cap off= better still.
(many caps have a breather arrangement built in)

Good luck, hope this helps.

Why would it run perfectly for 2 hrs. before power loss. If it was water in the fuel, wouldn't it run rough constantly?
I think it is water in the fuel wetting the filter. This makes it harder to get fuel thru the filter, but up to a point causes no effect because enuf fuel will go thru. Over time as you run the tractor the filter pleating gradually closes up from the larger than acceptable pressure differential across the filter. Finally the pleats close to reduce filter area enuf that the tractor cannot get enuf fuel thru it. Thats where you start losing power. After sitting a while the filter pleats spring back a bit and you can start and run at full power for awhile before the whole cycle repeats. Treat the fuel and change the filter and look hard for how its getting water in the 1st place. Could be a bad batch from your supplier.
Good luck.

How do you bleed the air out after the filter change?

Does this fuel tank have a screen basket in the neck? I certainly hope it does.

Loosen the banjo bolt on the the return line from the injection pump to the tank to bleed it.

I would strongly suggest that you install a Racor water separator bulk fuel filtering unit if you have

bulk storage or do the following;

1. drain the tank by removing the fuel line entering the fuel filter

2. use a very small vacuum cleaner hose to suction the crap out of the bottom of the tank-unless you want to remove the tank to
clean it thoroughly and use air to blow out the lines after you clean the tanks with the vacuum and a bit of rubbing alcohol to
break up any algae that is layered on the tank interior.

3. replace the fuel filter and hope it was one time thing or add a Racor 1100 before the new replacement Kubota filter to remove
the crap and water and never worry about the fuel system problems again.

Had a co-worker with a 5040 that got some hay into the tank. It would run fine then all of a sudden it would loose power and act up. I would drain the tank and check the line out between the filter and the tank. Make sure it's clean.

I had a similar problem, turned out to be bad fuel line. It was a braided line with a rubber interior. When the line heated up it colapse and shut off the fuel flow after it cooled the fuel would flow again. Replaced the line and the problem was solved.

Had this same problem with my B7500 a couple of weeks ago . Change the fuel filter and still had the problem .

The tractor would run fine for awhile then suddenly drop RPM . What was happening was I was starving the fuel filter . I put the tractor in park running 2000 rpm and I could watch the level in the fuel filter bowl drop to just below the filter and the tractor would almost conk out .

Ended up pulling the fuel line going to the filter and making sure I had good flow to the fuel filter bowl . That did the trick .

Absolutely excellent advise! I will look into each of the areas. Thanks all!

On the query on how I bleed the fuel system....the owner's manual states simply open the fuel cock on the filter bowl and run the engine for 30 seconds and then stop engine. That's it...sounds like it bleeds itself.

One other thing to check is the vent on your fuel cap. Make sure the hole is not stopped up. That could be your culprit. Next time it happens, loosen the fuel cap and see if you hear is suck in air and the motor start to run normal. Kind of like forgetting to open the vent on an outboard motor fuel tank.
