What exactly does "Power Beyond" mean?
I am new to this hydraulic stuff.

Power beyond is the pressure out of a control valve (open center) to other circuts. In other words "power beyond" that valve. The easy way to look at this is all control valves on a open center system are connected in series like a chain, pressure in-pressure out (power beyond). clear as mud huh!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A valve with Power Beyond will allow high pressure fluid flow to the next valve downstream regardless of the setting of the spools (ie. the levers to the work ports) thus keeping the high pressure circuit intact and active. This allows all valves to work in conjunction and simultaneous with each other. A good example of this is a loader valve which is Power Beyond.

Valves with Power Beyond will also have a second output for exhaust fluid (fluid from work ports). This is low or zero pressure fluid and typically returns to the reservoir tank.

Valves that do not have Power Beyond will exhaust the low pressure fluid into the main circuit, effectively disabling all downstream valves while a work port is active.

The most common use for power-beyond, in farm tractors anyway, would be a hydraulic motor, say that would turn hay rakes, some sprayers have a hydraulic motor that turns a pump, and several makes of planters, have a motor to spin a seed drum or a fan. Of course these tractors, usually have a perminately installed valve for beyond use, in the form of hydraulic quick couplers, one is pressure the other is a low restriction, return coupler. The purpose of the low restriction dump valve is to reduce heat.

Thanks for all the hydraulic info, especially the visual, J. D. That cleared up a lot. Now, armed with all this new-found knowledge, what are my options for adding some remote hydraulics to my Kubota B7500? It has a loader with a 3-way valve. I may want to build a grapple for the loader bucket, or put on a front angling blade, or add top & tilt to the 3ph, or ???

If you want to add additional spools and work ports you have only one "correct" option. That is to purchase a 1, 2 or 3 spool valve with power beyond capability and a relief valve. The B7500 probably has a flow rate of just under 5 gpm for the implement circuit so that will determine your valve size.

You then plumb as follows:
1. disconnect the power beyond connection from the loaders hydraulic outlet block. Connect this hose to the input port of your new valve. Joining this hose with another to make the correct length is ok but you cannot tee into the power beyond.

2. connect the power beyond port of your new valve to the loaders hydraulic output block (where the loader pb hose went).

3. connect the output port of your new valve to the same place that the loader valve's "tank" port goes. This connection can be tee'd with the loader's tank port hose. The connection is usually found under the seat and goes into the transmission reservoir.

4. connect the work ports of your new valve to whatever (tnt, blade, etc) you want.

This effectively connects your new valve in series with the hydraulic circuit which is the principle behind power beyond.

Note that some of what you want to do can be accomplished using your loader valve directly by simply connection its cylinder hoses to something else.

If this all seems complicated it isn't. If you are near southern NH just west of Nashua send me a PM and you can take a look at my setup. This past fall I added 3 rear remotes to my B2710. It's not rocket science once you understand the basics.

Kubotajoe- The easiest way is to go to your dealer and buy Kits, they sould have kit for single, dual, or tripple remotes, with all the fittings and instructions. If you what a third function for the loader, there is also a kit for that. Usually a electric over hydraulic that deverts oil from the tilt cylinders to say a grapple fork.

That may be so but be prepared for sticker shock from Kubota. A 2-spool valve complete setup with hoses and couplers will sell for over $850 and then you get to install it. I purchased parts from various places and installed a 3-spool complete setup including hoses and connectors for just over $400.

For adding some loader attachments you can also use a
diverter valve which when installed allows you to use
the attachment when you touch a thumb switch on your
knob and then activate curl/dump motion.

With some attachments you have to have a loader valve
that either does not have a regenerative dump circuit
or has both a regen circuit and a regular dump or your
attachment will not work. You can do an archive search
on this. Smarter heads then mine figured this out.

Whatever you do with your hydraulics make sure you or
the person doing the work understands what is happening.
Some "professionals" don't seem to. Hooked up the wrong
way your loader or backhoe valve can explode like a
balloon if the low pressure return circuit is pressurized.

Been there, done that.

Hired a "professional" big mistake.

I knew not much about hydraulics before this. I know a little
more now, and a lot more then the "professional".
