Ive got a 3 port valve that I believe is closed center but I have a fixed pump .Can I run both the return and power beyond to the tank and use it as open center?

A closed center valve is where the fluid does not flow through the valve to another valve. Fluid does not flow when the valve is not in neutral. The OUT port goes to tank.

If that valve is convertible, you can use it as an open center . PB, or a closed center valve by using different adapters.

Show us a pic of the valve.

When I blow air threw the input I get air out the power beyond but not the return so I figure its closed center here is a picture. 0921121601.jpg

Were both plugs out when you did the test?

If the valve is PB adaptable, and it looks like a PB adapter is installed, with a plastic plug in it .

the air will blow out the PB port and not the return port.

If the PB adapter is installed, the fluid will only exit the OUT port when you move the levers, and the cyl fluid can exit.

If you want to use that valve as a closed center valve, then plug the PB port with a steel plug. or install a closed center adapter.

The valve appears to be set up for open center.

The closed center plug will be a shallow flat hex plug.

You've got an open center with power beyond. The return is for fluid coming back from the work ports. Shift the valve and then blow in the in and you should get air out the return. A closed center valve would not flow any air when blowing in the in in neutral. Edit, JJ beat me to it.

all plugs was removed when I did the test.

I want to use it as open center ,so do I plumb the return to tank and the power beyond to tank too?

Is this your last valve before tank?

You can remove the P B adapter and plug that port, and use the OUT port for a series connection to tank.

If it will be used before the 3pt system, use the PB port to feed the 3pt, and the OUT port will go to tank.

That valve should make a good remote valve setup.

this is the first and last valve.

so if I remove the adaptor and plug it the flow will go out the return when in neutral

Yes. That is correct.
