Welcome to TBN Sal :D

Yes, you can do exactly what you asked...but be prepared for the splitter to be much slower, since you will have only 3.4 GPM of flow to operate it. Also be sure to flush those hose and that cylinder thoroughly to get the old fluid out.

tuvm kenyd i have a 990 tractor maby im better off running the spliter with that tractor also what is the best way to flush the cylinders ? thanks sal

The 990 would definitely be a better choice...

As for flushing, remove all the hoses and hang to drain, the manually cycle the cylinder to push out the old fluid. If it's super nasty the flush with diesel fuel.

Yes, it IS that easy;)...

Just clean everything out like I posted before...and don't worry about the filter. The fluid will be filtered by the tractors filters. Also, after cycling the logsplitter a few times...recheck the fluid level of the tractor with the logsplitter retracted.

Yes, you would be amazed at how much fluid a cylinder will drink the first time filled.

:)
