i have recently moved up in tractor size and the amount of fuel used is very noiticable, i have always used clean plastic 5 gallon cans and tossed them out after a couple years or if they get contaminated. i am thinking i can purchase a 55 gal drum off offraod locally but not sure. if i am able to purchase a drum i will have to figure out how to x-fer the fuel and how to store it w/o it getting contaminated. i am in oklahoma where the humidity is very high so that is a big concern. i know about alge as i spent many years as a diesel tech.
the L45 should be able to pick up a drum full of fuel if i place it on a pallet to transport it and i have a barn that stays pretty cool inside during the summer.
i do not really want to purchase a tank, i remember too many trucks that got filled by their "farm tank" and contaminated the entire system.:thumbdown:

It worked well but was a bit worrisome unloading it from the truck with either the bucket, or with forks and a pallet.

When I went to bigger equipment that had 25+ gallon tanks, I moved up to this and have the fuel delivered:

As you can see, I have a Goldenrod water and particulate filter on it but I have never had to replace it and I have not had any algae problems. I think if you keep the water out, that's a big start in avoiding algae. IMO, the plastic tanks are better at avoiding moisture than metal tanks. I keep mine inside btw.

It's a lot less hassle having the fuel delivered although the bill hurts a lot!

I use a 30 gal drum with same style pump as well. Use the Goldenrod water filter and keep it under a shed.
Lift it with the bucket and strap with hooks on each end in the water drain holes I drilled in the lip of the barrel top.
Works great for me. Advise to use a water/particulate filter in line. Only adds $20 to setup.

Been Using above for a number of years now . Maybe a bottle of conditioner / stabilizer on a yearly basis , ( Seriously , If I remember , I put something in , if not , Oh Well ) . Last purchase was 4 or 5 years ago and added 100 gallons to the 50 or so that was still in it . Never had a issue in tank or tractor with any growth , water , or other problems .

I've been using this for the last 20 years. 500 gallon double walled for secondary containment. Used a 500 gallon mounted on a stand with gravity feed for the 20+ years previous.

I originally started by using 5 gallon containers to fuel the tractor. Then for many years I used a 15 gallon (it actually holds 17) plastic container. I filled it from the 5 gallon jugs bought at the local truck stop and used a 12V electric fuel pump run off a trailer brake battery to fill the tractor. Just recently I changed to a 275 gallon tank (bought used for $75.) with a 12V pump I bought from Northern tool (Pump with hose and nozzle was $150.) I added a spin on filter bought from NAPA. I wired up a quick connect 12V plug on the tractor to power the pump. I had the fuel company put in 100 gallons when they delivered my home heating oil which is #2 ULSD diesel. I use Power Service additive in both tanks for any moisture and anti gel agent.

I built a stand from some galv. pipe I had laying around and got this 100 gallon tank from someone who moved put gas in their home and had no use for this fuel tank. I cleaned it up inside and outside and of course painted it JD Yellow. It is standing next to a shed now because we moved, but it is gravity flow.
I take it down with my tractor forks, take it to the station with a trailer or my truck and fill it, hoist it back up and off we go.
I had to put the filter near the end of the hose or it didn't work properly.
