I am about to buy a post hole digger for my Mahindra 28XL. Thinking about the one from Tractor Supply for price and availability. Any thoughts??

When I need one, that was my plan too. Same tractor.

However, I'm all new to the whole tractor world...

Hopefully someone with a lot of knowledge and experience will offer some thoughts.

We make a post hole digger just for subcompact tractors like yours. They also use a standard 48" auger with a 2" shaft which is a big plus. Check them out along with the product video here. We also offer free ground shipping right to your door within 1,000 miles of Newton, NC.

Depends on how much use you are going to give it and soil conditions. I have a couple items from TSC that are ok, but they are non-powered (no pto). When I bought my PHD it came from Bush Hog and can handle a 24" auger. I don't think the TSC one can handle larger than 12", you may want to check that. The big thing to compare would be gear box rating and output shaft diameter, that may be what limits there unit to a 12" auger. Good luck.

I bought the Countyline PHD from Tractor Supply and it works great! I bought the 9" auger and set a bunch of 4" and 6" post for a penned in area for our chickens. It worked flawlessly. Make sure you get a few extra shear pins, it happens... The unit has a 1 year warranty and is of good construction. I am in the Adirondacks and the soil is FULL of rocks of all sizes. I only had to move 1 hole location. It cleared some good sized rocks out of the hole without difficulty. I was extremely pleased.

That's a good review! Thanks

Is want to use it for fence post and deck sonotubes.... And maybe even for making holes to put in plants, occasionally. I wouldn't be hard on it. The bush hog model sounds better, but probably overkill for me.

Sounds like you would be ok with the TSC one. The 2 bottom plow I have from there has held up well.
