Posthole Digger Post hole digger extension?

I’m starting on my porch build here in Vermont but the frost depth called out for by the inspector is 60”.
My PHD100 by Frontier with a 9” auger and an EA 12” auger uses 2” Round augers and only go to 48” and 39” respectively.

Though I can find hex drive in 2”,

I can’t seem to find 2” round extensions in about 12-24”.

Any ideas or DIY make it yourself ideas?

Them clamshell diggers are getting tiresome getting that last foot or two!

Try calling some equipment rental companies to see if they have an auger to do it. I saw a 72" one man hydraulic listed at United.

I would think that would be something available through implement dealers, but you will need to find someone willing to dig for it.
You might be able to locate a welder/fabricator in your area that could build an extension for you.
However considering the pain that connecting your auger, digging to its depth, unhooking with the augur in the hole and connecting the extension. This sounds painful to me but doable!
But now consider the getting out of the hole. My experience with PHD is that there is not 2’ of clearance to run the augur and extension on the tractor and have ground clearance.
Therefore the removal of the augur from the hole is going to be a royal PITA. You are going to have raise the augur with extension attached as high as possible, secure the augur from dropping back in the hole, remove the extension, reconnect to the augur and then unsecure it from falling in the hole and finish lifting it out of the hole.

This process may make it worthwhile to dig your holes as deep as you can, then go rent a man augur to finish the depth if you do not wish to do it with the clam style PHD.
Is 60” the depth the inspector wants your holes? Or is that your frost depth? If that is your frost depth, you need another 18” of depth. I am in very southern MO and that is way deeper than we need for frost depth!

In my area, 42" is where the inspector wants to see the bottom of the post. You have to go deeper for a "foundation" In my case the inspector allowed a 60lb bag of "ready mix" with a precast concrete "biscuit" on top of that. Then it had to be 42" or more to ground level.
I am guessing frost goes deeper in Maine.

I have a bobcat round extension that's about 24" long. Might be worth seeing if they're still available.

Farm Star had one available through Rural King at one time. It might be worth giving them a call. Farmstar Equipment
But for round shafts it seems like a straight forward part to make if you have the tools available.
