Possible to over-rev my diesel tractor?

Since you've been blanketed with multiple snow storms measured in feet rather than inches you have earned yourself a 'bye'!

Don

Thanks Don!

As we 'speak' I'm in the tail spin of one of these never quite ending storms. My contractor tried to get to my house today, and was only able to get to my driveway due to someone having used their own personal plow vehicle to plow one lane on our road. It's basically straight up hill, for a mile, then a turn into my straight uphill 400' plus wind drift snow covered driveway. He had his brand new big Chevy truck with 4 studded snow tires towing his equipment trailer until he could go no further. It took 15 minutes to back and fill till he hit the road and drove home! :duh:
I asked his son not to send him back tomorrow because I don't know when the storm is going to be over, and I do not plan to plow until it is done. They have plenty to do elsewhere until next week, so we reset the schedule 'till then.:confused3:
Winter in VT/New England, got to love it/ go with the flow. Boston has beat all records for snowfall up to 60 day timeline to date this year.

Buggs67,
so far I'm still without chains this winter, and have yet another storm coming tomorrow that could make me regret this decision.:confused3:

Do as I say- not as I do!
That was my father's line

I hope your machine is under shelter so you can put your chains on. It sounds like your terrain is much more challenging than mine. I don't require the tractor for snow clearing; the snowblower and quad handle that. It's good for pushing back the banks and moving what accumulates at the bottom of the driveway (my house is 100+' downhill from the road). Thanks again.

Buggs,

I have a radiant floor new barn with 2 full bays, 2 half bays, and a huge boat bay. The boat bay is the only cold bay- no heat, but well insulated. Two, 2 ton chainfalls and suspension cradles to lift my boat off it's trailer for any needed maintenance. BUT, for the last two nights the tractor, backhoe and snowplow are stuck in deep snow off the side of one of my driveways! Last night I slid on the ice 'rink' under the snow and the tractor slid into the snow bank. Guess what, no chains on.
And today after digging her out, still no chains, when I slid off my next door for sale property drive, just before I was going to call it a day and go home.
Guess I like pushing it to the limit; but I hate being stuck!:confused2::duh:
I'll probably get around to putting the chains on before the end of winter.:confused3:

I was drooling at "radiant floor". I have a 2 car garage, one of which belongs to wife's car. I keep my summer car in the other, so everything I do gets done outside unless I move a car out temp, and then it's still cold. My plan for the next home is a large workshop/garage/barn with heat.

My wife says I push the limits sometimes. And somehow I always get caught out. I try to plan ahead and something jumps up and bites me in the ***. Last year the winch on the plow broke, the snowblower motor blew, so I borrowed my buddies plow and it broke. SO I had 12" of frozen snow on my 30deg incline driveway. I used the winch on the Jeep to pull myself out to go to physical therapy. By the time I got everything fixed it was march. (I fixed my buddies plow, then got a new winch, then put a new engine on the blower).

Part of the reason I got a tractor.

BTW did you make the Diamond Plate canopy?

No, I bought the canopy from my Kioti dealer. He had a poly or fiberglass Kioti orange one that was old stock and scratched, and I didn't want it, even with $200 off.
I found out he had the diamond plate and took that one. It's been great! I like it a lot. I forget the brand, but it's pretty common, made in USA, IIRC. I wouldn't be without it now that I've used it for a year or so.

I was thinking it would give protection from a widow maker as well as rain/sun. Not sure a plastic one would. That and a box blade are next one the planning board.

Those are some of the reasons I bought the canopy, though I would caution against reliance of protection against widow makers, depending on size.
Depending on tasks to be performed, a roll over box blade seems to be the best performer.

Max rated HP at 2600rpm and fast idle is usually 10-15% faster.
You are finding things to worry about that don't matter. Installing a block heater for cold starting is time better spent.
