thanks!
It's raining right now, but I'll try to get one tommorow morning.

A strong dose of roundup kills it. For the large vines, cut them off and paint the end with some straight roundup. this method has worked well for me. You have to do it for 3 years or so as the seeds from it keeps sprouting up here and there.

Well just how bad can it be? The Ivy? the tree? the silo? or the tasks ahead of me?

See the Ivy first.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If it has three (3) leaves, it is poison ivy. If it has 5 leaves, it is not. Otherewise, both appear to be similar and it pays to be cautious. The five leaf vine on trees is virginia creeper.

Here is a site that tells about both, as well has some good pictures.

I listen to those wiser than myself.

It will be chem-suit time. I actually purchased an Army
chem-suit with charcoal inliners a few years back at some whole sale outlet. Think I'll dress for combat.

bingo, yer a winner!!

this is a hard 1. the herbacides work best when the laeves are young and reddish in color... this'll need multiple applications of round-up etc. cutting the vine and directly coating w/ round-up works ok too...

maybe do this: cut the vine- pull half off the silo, other half outta the ground. lay the vines in a safe place to be baked by the sun. DO NOT bury- it'll grow... things to know-remember: the oil in PI or P oak, urshoil (sp?) stays active in the plant for five years after cutting.... never wash with hot water sinc hoy h2o opens your ores and lets the oil in...

personally, i'd let the vines stay until winter, then attack when dormant and the oils not actively running...

good luck, be careful!!!!!!!!!!!1

Ahh, but remember, there are plenty of oils still left in the dormant stalk of Poison oak/ivy in the winter. You can still get a nasty case of it in the winter too, 'cause all those stalks mix in with other stuff, so you don't notice them so much /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That stuff is thick! Hire somebody to clean it up!

Otherwise, get that suit out. Go to the pharmacy before you start, and get both pre-exposure lotion, and wash/shop. The Technu and Avon stuff mentioned earlier...

Work till it is done. You don't want to suit up, work, take a potty break and get back to it... Clean up REAL GOOD before you take a potty break, for sure /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif You seriously do not want to go there...

i went there... terrible, terrible experience. left a whole summer in misery. the heat of the summer made it spread, i figure pores opened up, etc...

yeah, about the oils... you need to exercise same caution no matter what time of year!!

i'm growing a bumper crop of PI this year... maybe i'll post a copule of pix! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
