Posion Ivy

I should have taken a picture of it. About 5X7 feet worth of it.
Crawling along the silo side. I hit it with weed-b-gone. What to do with it once it is dead and shriviled up? I don't need any surprizes, and burning is not an option from what I understand.

So how to remove?

Keep hitting it with a "total kill" herbacide. (Brush killer) Also, goats eat poison Ivy with no ill effects to them. Other than that, when you find a fool-proof way to rid yourself of that dreaded plant, let me know.....scratch-scratch-scratch......

Clip it off at the ground after the 2-4d kills it (hopefully).

I'd pull it off and bag it, throw in the trash.

Wash any exposed skin with soap and water within two hours of exposure, and as well, after handling any clothes or tools exposed to the oil. I have a habit of washing my hands after tying my work boot shoe laces, just as a precaution to any exposure to the oils on my shoes.

You can burn it too, as long as you don't breathe the smoke and then have an allergic reaction that gets inside your system.

I have a pair of coveralls just for poison oak, cause I get it bad. I have an extra pair of "dirty" gloves too.

There is no way to get rid of the stuff beside getting in there and tearin it out. Others have mentioned goats; that works if you don't put herbicide on it.

Before gearing up. I use a pre-exposure lotion. Technu and Avon both make it. It helps prevent you from getting poison oak/ivy. When finished working in/around the stuff, I undress right in front of the washing machine.

Use Technu to wash up with. You can use it to wash the ickyfied coveralls too. Make sure to wash up the second you finish.

I'm a firm believer in the Technu. It can be used within about 4 hours afterwards to remove as well (for those cases when you didn't realize you were in it until it was too late).

The pre-exposure lotion works pretty well. But, it does not last. It is kinda like sun tan lotion; you need to apply more as you go, especially if you sweat.

The pre-exposure stuff is right next to the wash/soap Technu at our stores.

The stuff works. I handled and (carefully) burned dry tree limbs and trunks infested with the thick hairy vines two days in a row last week, washed up with Tecnu both days, and did not get a rash. Then a day later all I did was rearrange the charred, unburned remains on the burn pile. I didn't think I touched any that day, so I didn't use the Tecnu. Of course, now I have a little rash on my wrists and the backs of my hands.

When you find jewel weed blooming (I never recognize it without the yellow touch-me-not flowers), you can collect the juice from the stems in plastic ice cube trays and put them in the freezer. Then any time you need relief, just take out a cube and apply it to the rash.

My daughter just had a fairly bad case. She got something new over the counter that cleared it right up. Don't know the name of the stuff, but it is supposed to chemically react with the irritant and allow it to be washed off. It was also expensive...like $30 per tube or something.

I've got tons of what I think is poison ivy vines all over my trees. I've compared pictures on the net, but those pictures all seem to vary. If I take a sharp digital photo can ya'll confirm or deny whether it's poison ivy?
