The poppy seeds one buys in the grocery store are of the type that the sap from the seed pods contain opium.

In Canada There is a limit to how many can be legally planted.

In California, we broadcast the seeds in winter. Right now the poppies are in full bloom out here. Since the Golden Poppy is the state flower, it is illegal to pick them in the wild. They nipped the opium problem in the bud. Make it illegal to pick them so as to make it more difficult to extract the opium, how clever. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Many different varieties of poppy's. Some are annual - some biannual - and some perrenial. Not all are capable of producing opium.

Any place selling seeds will have pakages of poppy seeds.

Grocery store's may have them in the bulk food section.
