Pond Cleaning

Any ideas for some kind of rake I can drag across a pond to clear out weeds ?

How big is the pond? Can you use one of those telescoping poles like for pruning saws? Are the weeds floating and detached? Or are they anchored to the bottom. I would think a fishing net with fine mesh would work to catch and scoop..Meaning one of those scoop nets for pulling in a fish over the side of a boat.

Yea, I'll take a pic of one I use ocassionally for sticks and debris and post it later. I attach a rope to the handle and give it a throw. What type of weeds are you wanting to clean? I have to do no cleaning of green weeds since I stocked a couple of Grass Carp. They eat their weight in weeds everyday and keep my ponds looking good.

I had weed problems 3 years after I put my pond in. I bought 3 Kio and 2 grass carp. The next year and every year since then no problem with weeds. I still see 2 of the Koi every summer and year before last I caught one of the grass carp while fishing. I thought I had a whale, it weighed 28 lbs.

What about using a chain drag harrow? You would have to attach a long chain or wire rope, walk around to the other side of the pond and attach to the tractor then drag it thru the pond. Would make for a long and slow day, but would be doable.

the weeds are cat tails... and grass crap do not like them or so I was told...
The pond is maybe 75 x 250. The chain sounds good... use just ordinary chain or something with hooks ????

Good luck on the cattails. The best control for them without using chemicals is to dip them out with a backhoe every couple of years.

That is what I ended up doing (and continue to do). Here is the beginning http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/projects/105389-removing-cattails.html. The root systems on cattails are extremely difficult to pull.
