Pole Barn cost questions

/ Pole Barn cost questions #11
I had a local pole barn company put up a typical metal sided pole barn. Cost with some extras came out to $10/sq ft. Cost without the extras was about $9/sq ft. This is just for the shell. No concrete or wiring. No site work.
I did not like the idea of metal siding and roofing so I tried every way I could to price out the shingle roof and wood siding. It brought the price up way to high for a barn. If I recall correctly the shingle roof and wood siding doubled the price.
The labor part of the $10/sq ft came out to about $2/sq ft.

I am allowed the metal roof, which I like the looks of anyway, but I can not get around the restrictions on the metal sides. I have 4 choices. Wood, brick, stone or stucco. Somehow, given my choices available, I can't justify anything other than wood for a storage barn!!!

I figure the cost, with wood siding, is probably going to add 50% to the price. So I guess it seems reasonable to assume about $15/sq.ft. for the structure itself.

My biggest problem is going to be getting the concrete to the site (through the woods, down a hill).

Based on what I can glean from other posts, I am thinking that something around $30,000 seems reasonable for something about 24 by 36.

I'd think stucco would have a lower cost than wood siding. If there are a lot of stucco buildings in your area. I'd think about putting one of the epoxy finishes on that. Sure would last longer than wood.

In our area (northern Indiana) natural stucco doesn't withstand the elements and synthetic stucco (Dryvit) costs more than brick!

Bob,
Well I am in the midst of putting up a Miracle Truss barn. I wanted the Miracle Truss because of the complete open span. My barn is 36' x 38' with 16' eaves and an 8/12 roof pitch that will make the roof peak about 29 ' high. The barn from Miracle Truss (less the girts, purlins and siding, but including everything else including a 14' x' 16' sliding door, roofing w/ 6 light panels, and 18" overhangs all around) was about $14,500 delivered. I figure the concrete pad (24' x 36 ' will run about $3,000. Girts and purlins are about $1,500. I am going to sheet the building in Hardipanel (a concrete wood look-alike which is used for siding many houses in my area) should run about $2,300. Need to run electric etc, so I figure I will be around $24,000 for a pretty nice structure.

With the 16' eaves and the high roof pitch, I am going to put a loft over 1/2 the building for my office etc. I'll post pictures as things move along.
Best of luck,
Larry

I am currently in the process of building a 28x40 barn with a second story loft in the middle bay (16x28). It is a monitor roof style pole barn type constrruction. I am using metal roofing and rough cut board and batten siding. the total cost of materials will be somewhere around 12000 when all is done. Although I am not adding a slab now, I did have tofill to get to the elevation I wanted at about $2500 for about 200 yd3 of material. that is probably close to the same as a slab for that building. for labor, I think you should double the materials price. If you have a contractor do it all for you, they will aslo tack on profit on the materials, so factor in another 20-25% on the $12k materials cost. You are probably pretty close with your $30k number. I have attached the drawings of what my barn will look like when completed, so you can get an idea of it. I drew up the plans myself in 3-D Home Architect.
