I have a 30x60x9 pole barn that I am working on right now. I am going to install a steel ceiling in it with blown in insulation. My trusses are 10' on center and I am wondering what the best way to add additional supports is. I have 2 different ideas how to do this and wanted some insight. I am framing between the post conventionally so will have a standard top plate. I was thinking of running a 2x6 perpendicular between the trusses down the center then run 16' long 2x6's hung on that with joist hangars and running to the top plate of the side walls.

The second idea is to run 10' 2x4's perpendicular to the trusses every 2' on center.

The ridges in the steel will be running perpendicular to the trusses.

Any thoughts on which way I should go?

Thanks!!

Your first idea is correct. The steel needs to be fastened to joists running perpendicular to the metal ridges. I've usually seen it suggested to go a maximum of 4 feet span between joists for metal panels. I'm not sure if you can get away with 5 feet in your situation. Maybe someone else here has some info on that.

If the roof of your pole barn is metal did you use insulating foam panels between the top of the roof purlins and the bottom of the steel roof?

If you didn't you may have a real problem with condensation dripping into the ceiling insulation from the roof caused by temperature differential of the outside of the roof panels versus the inside every morning during many times of the year.
