First , some pressure regulators have a filter screen in them . Me I would just take the regulator out , that alone would increase flow .

we have a winner !

Wonder why a pressure reducer was originally installed as it seem unnecessary...

Because we're the city and that's the way we do it!

Or, it may prevent some damage if the city over-pressurizes the system? I don't know. Just a guess.

Having lived with 170 psi for 20 years... I grew up thinking everyone could strip paint with their garden hose.

Over 70 psi starts causing problems with modern plumbing...

WOW! I remember in my dad's house, we had one faucet in the laundry room that was unregulated full city pressure. Don't know why. But that's the story we were told. You had to be careful. If you held a cup under it and turned the lever too far, too fast, it would blow the cup out of your hand. It was on a fiberglass sink with hot, cold, and that one little faucet in the corner. I remember it wore a spot in the sink where it would blast.

That's one of the things I'd ask my father "Why?" if he were still alive. :)

Never knew the pressure valve had a screen or even gave it a thought. Again - Thank you all!

Thanks for the update. I never took one apart before and didn't know about the screen either. looks like it was doing a good job catching rocks!!!

Congratulations on your repair and improving your water flow. That's awesome.

Glad to hear some of your problems are better. Were you able to get a pressure upstream of the regulator?
