This is all the chart anyone should ever need regarding pollinators. I will add that especially with plums, while another pollinator is not called for, another tree of the same variety is often needed to produce a meaningful yield.

i have jap plums right now that are maintaining the bird population in my neighborhood i think!

My old sweet almond trees feed a large crow/blackbird population in Aug/Sep. The birds strip every nut off the trees (which are overgrown, 25-30 ft tall, too tall to harvest easily) leaving the husks and shells on the ground. Unfortunately, these little buggers watch me when I disc and plant my hayfield and then gorge themselves on the seed. They're too intelligent to be spooked easily.

Here's side note for those with fruit trees and bothered by Japanese beetles. By accident, I discovered a great way to kill them. It seems when they get scared, they fly straight up.

So I got one of those propane--wand--flamethrower things that hook to a propane tank, lit it and held it over the top of the tree. I had instant-roasted Japanese beetles by the many hundreds or even thousands. I've done it a number of times on the trees I could reach the top of and as soon as I hold the wand head over the top of the tree they fly straight up and into the flame. Beats me but I'm good with it.

i saw a hawk kill a crow once. carry it to a fence post like I have seent he hawk do a thousand times with snakes, squirrells and mice, where it will eat them. the hawk couldn't eat the crow. after a couple bites it flew off.

crow must taste pretty bad!

I saw a hunting show where these guys stood in a field and played some crow calls. They soon had a couple dozen crows. The guys pulled the breasts out in the field and put them on ice. Took them home, cleaned em up a bit, and cooked what looked like a pretty good meal. The crow breasts were of course, dark meat, and about the size of a small walnut each. But they had a bowl full of them. I'd try it once just to see.
