Plows for 790

I have a 790 JD and was looking for a small set of plows. Mostly would be breaking foodplots and rarely any fescue or sod . I have found a 2-12" set of JD plows with break away/reset mechanism and not broke up to pieces as is common with old plows for sell, price is $300. I know this is probably really streching the limits for a 790 4WD, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with a setup like this and if this was a fair price for this plow. I have just bought the tractor and am not really up to speed about what will work for size 790. Thanks for any input you guys might throw my way.

do you have the 30hp or 28 hp 790? i have the 28 hp and i'm not sure you could pull a 2 bottom w/ it even w/ filled tires and in 4wd. but i guess it would also depend on your soil. i have a 6ft jd 105 disk and it will make my 790 bury itself in heavy soil unless i'm in 4wd, i don't have loaded tires. you could also possibly convert that plow to a 1 bottom if your tractor couldn't pull it. we used to pull a 2pottom jd trailer plow w/ an old jd b and also a jd 50 those were heavy tractors and would def work in the heavier soil. if you can see if you could try it out b4 buying.

I'm not so sure if it's lacking hp or traction. If you had loaded R1s, I think you'd probably be okay with the 27hp. Unloaded R4s probably would spin.

Also, depends a lot on your soil.

My dad has used our 30hp 790 with a one bottom plow in clay soil and at times its about all it will handle.. Im not sure how/whether it would handle a two bottom
