Plows are for amateurs

Woke up today to one of the biggest snowfalls of my life. Probably 3’ or more on the ground when I started snow blowing. Snowed a couple more inches after that.
I don’t know where I would of put that much snow with a plow.
But it really is a pain when the snow is higher than the snowblower.

Why did you let it get so deep?

It's not like you didn't know it was coming. We heard about it down here. ;)

How much snow did you get in 78? In NJ we got 3' my dad had a 30" snow bird me and my brother took out and blowed every drive way in our hood for $10 a piece. Worked all night thought we were the kings of the world. Till we got home and my father took the money gave us back $10 bucks a piece and said my blower my money . Them depression area people were cheap.:drink:

This last winter we got 48" in 24 hrs and it was the most unreal experience I've ever had. No power or telephone for about 4 days and the public road didn't get plowed for about 5 days. The snow was pretty heavy too and the snow would just stack up in front of the blower. The first day was a nightmare trying to deal with it. The second day was much better after the snow got colder overnight and could then be blown. However it was slooooow going and looking over my shoulder for hours and hours was taking it's toll on the old body. Wish I took some videos but at the time I was more concerned about getting the job done.

As far as plows being for amateurs I agree with the people that said otherwise. I have a front hydraulic plow, a rear blade, a regular bucket, a large volume snow bucket, a rear facing blower and a rear inverted snow blower. They all have their place and best uses depending on conditions and circumstances. I have no doubt that my conditions are different than yours and therefore will dictate different needs. Some people swear that the best method is a front bucket and I have no doubt that might be the best tool for their conditions but try using that for a narrow driveway that is a mile long, with steep banks on both sides and you would quickly realize that it is the worst tool for those conditions.

I suspect you meant for the title of the thread to be in jest and thought it was funny but I also expected it to stir the pot with a few of our members. Especially those that swear a plow is the best and only way.:)

Yeah. We were suppose to get 1”-3”, then revised to 8”-12” at the last minute. When I went to bed that night it had just started snowing. Maybe a couple inches. Nothing to worry about.
Woke up next morning and holy!!

Sounds like the forecast we received just before the big dump. Went to bed expecting 8" to 12" (just like your forecast) and woke up to about 2 ft and just dumping at 5:30am. By the time I plowed around the buildings and got to the driveway there was over 3 ft and still coming down. Gave up on the driveway after many futile hrs and attacked it the next day after it got colder. At least I could blow it then. Just a matter of time and lots of it. Then off to help some stranded neighbors.

How did you make out with the 3ft dump? Any issues?
