Plowing engine trouble

Was plowing tonight and the engine just started to shut down. I figured I was running out of diesel so I shut it off. Checked and its full. What would make this die just like it ran out of fuel ? 186d. Stuck in my driveway

Fuel could be jelling up. Try some Rescue 911 to clean it out. Water frozen in the filter or lines could also cause the problem.

Do you have a way to warm it up and thaw it out?

I'm using off road diesel.

It is stuck at the top of the driveway. Guess it will have to sit there till morning. I can try to find some 911.

If inline filters most will work in a pinch.

Boy warming it up would be a great thing...911 in the tank is great - I have found getting it from the tank, through the lines to injectors, and spit out into a fine mist...frustrating.

Here is a when all hope is lost, use at your own risk, probably will never work twice tip from someone in the north. When all else fails and you know that you are not getting fuel to the injectors. Crack the fuel lines at the injectors. Cut a circle out of a inner tube with the stem in the center of the circle - as big as you think you will need after reading the next step. Take the fuel cap off and wrap the inner tube around the spout of the fuel tank, now put a hose clamp around that and tighten it down. Put a FEW PSI in the tank - watch the lines at the injectors when "liquid" fuel comes out turn the fuel off at the filter, then release the air pressure from the inner tube. Don't go putting a lot of pressure in the tank!! Something will eventually give and diesel will go flying everywhere, potentially hazardously!!

I try and plan ahead and have diesel treated for the winter...not always successful at that. This was a decent read concerning diesel fuels and the motors that burn them. I've been subscribing to the additive advice for some time now:

If it was mine I would drain the tank and put clean fresh fuel in. Make sure to drain the lines to the Fuel Filter and get all the old fuel out. Here's a NAPA Fuel Filter #3262 If it's a little short don't worry it will work for now and then order the correct one from Hoye. A good counter person will be able to match yours from this number. Just take your old one with it with you. Your have to bleed your Fuel Lines and pump. This will tell you how to do it. How to bleed air out of the fuel system

And the other common cause for that, aside from plugged fuel line (gelled, or debris) is ... no air venting into the fuel tank. If you have a solid cap, not the fuel gauge kind, this is common. In any case crack the cap open so it can breathe then try bleeding it again.

Off my sons old dirt bike I kept for parts. Not Pretty but won't have the problem of Venting.

Thanks again everyone! I just got it down the driveway with the plow still down. Going to napa for filter and some 911. I would love to get it into the garage to get some heat on it but no way pushing it with the plow down.

Yea they will. I know carquest and napa will have them. You can even look your tractor up on the napa site as its an american tractor.

You can plug your air intake with snow too, if it is blowing bad. That will do the same thing.....

You can also jack the plow up with a floor jack, chain it up or use comealong, then push it into the barn.... Or make some temp wood skids/ski's and let the plow back down...

Just got back from Napa the fuel filter matched exactly to what I have 3262. Thanks for that. I got some 911 to thank god cause on the way home my diesel truck gelled up at the fuel filter and died on side of the road dumped some 911 in and 20 seconds later back on the road.

If your pickup gelled or iced up i would bet money on your tractor suffering the same.

The fuel filter was frozen that's what happened. Now just waiting for battery to charge up some.
