Just thought this was interesting - in a sick sort of way. I have never seen it before. My self powered bush hog has been giving me fits lately. Turned out to be a sticking float valve. Sometimes stuck open, some times closed, and some times just right. The plating on the needle is flaking off making a rough surface. You can see some of the silver flakes on the paper towel. Older Walbro carb.

I have never seen plating peel off a needle before. Are you able to find a replacement?

Yes surprisingly I did. At eReplacementParts.com for $5.34 - lucky. The mower is 20 years old. I guess some of the basics don't change.

The rubber tip wasn't looking so great either, so good to replace it. They get leaky when that happens and can stick or flood.
