Forget the machine -- look at that horizon! My "horizon" is the hill across the valley. I have to travel a few hours to see that much flat land! WOW! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Here's some more details-

Pictures are that of a 48 row corn planter, the owner farms near Taylorville, IL.

Here are some facts on the planter:

- Cost $157,000
- Planter weight empty 33,000 lbs
- Planter holds 7,000 lbs of seed....takes over two hours to fill the planter boxes from bagged seed
- Planter folds up in about 2-3 minutes....all automatically done from the tractor cab , the center 10 planter boxes push to the rear and 19 rows fold in the from side

What's a sack of corn seed weigh... say, 70lbs? So 100 bags in 2 hours? If I were doing it, make that... 5 hours! Wonder how long it takes to empty each hopper and start over! Thanks for the picture!

I wonder how many grease fittings that planter has.. must take a week to service it!

50 lbs. Most guys with planters that big use a hopper and a self feeding system. Go from two hours to about 20 minutes to fill one.

Bet it get really interesting if one of the rows bins stops planting and trying to figure out which one it is? But this contraption probably has an electronic sensor to alert the tractor operator and tells him which one it is. The combines are getting like that now.
