Plans wanted for simple well house.

Hey guys and gals,


Got a small project that needs to get done here before the cold sets in. I need a simple and cost effective Well house that will keep my pump from freezing but leaves me access to hook up water lines for the horses water if needed.

I'm trying to make something simple that will try and stay around a $100 budget. Any ideas? or perhaps known plans for something similiar that can be found on the net?

Not trying to be a smart azz, but you can hardly drive to the big box store or lumber yard for 100 bucks. If you have a place in the house for your tank and stuff I would put in a pit less adapter. No more freezing trouble.

What is your minimum size to contain all of the components (well pipe riser, any pumps, pressure tank (s))?

With a budget of $100, how about essentially making a dog house without the door? You could make a small hinged door (say 6" x 6") just big enough to reach and turn on/off a hose bib mounted just inside the wall. You could also insulate the inside as needed. The small dog house would also enable you to completely lift and remove everything for easy access later.

Tell us a little more... my well house in VA is mostly underground with a flat roof with no insulation and I put in an outlet to run a 100 watt light bulb for heat but it never really even needs that. I assume your pump is on the ground and you want to build a stucture around it? If you make something 4 feet by 4 feet, it could be cheap but will it be big enough?

How big does it have to be? Will an ice chest, upside down cover it? What about a large plastic tub? You can line it with one inch foam from Hope Depot for pretty cheap.

What about cement blocks on the sides and some thick foam for a cover?

I don't think you can build something out of wood and make it weather proof so that it doesn't rot away on you, for $100.
