I've gotten one before from Ford Motor Company on my truck. They offered $100 for me to go down somewhere near Detroit and hang out while I was quizzed about what worked/didn't work, what could be changed, etc. I passed on the deal because I didn't have time, but what the manufacturers are after are an owner's perspective about their product. They're looking for anything that can be changed to improve the product and even though the engineers spend months (years?) on development sometimes they miss things that are obvious to an owner in a matter of hours.
