Pictures - what is easiest way to fix the orientation?

I use Win 10 and Firefox. In seeing Newbury's small pics, numbers 1,3, and 4 are rotated 90 deg. left, 2 is correct. When I click on each to enlarge they all self correct to the proper orientation. Not sure how to get the small pics to orient properly. I use this sites go advanced and manage attachments to add pics and don't recall ever having an orientation problem.

I have mac OS Mojave 10.14.1. I simply click on any one of the four pics and it opens right side up. Now - if you are talking about "massaging" the picture prior to posting. I have, use and can recommend any or all of the following.

Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor ------- Movavi Photo Editor 5 -------------- Photo Pad Image Editor

By far and away, Photo Pad Image Editor is the least complicated software but does lack some of the more exotic features that the other two have.

Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor is the most feature rich software program of the three.

If you have a good reason - - there is always - Adobe Photoshop CC or Corel Paintshop Pro 2019. If I had this kind of $$$ - I'd be looking at another tractor implement.

For "massaging" pictures, I use Paint or Paint 3D, they came installed on my Windows 10 Dell AIO computer.

It gets so frustrating to have to reorient pictures from landscape to portrait for them to display properly on TBN.

On my windows 10 laptop both of these appear properly. But when uploaded the exif of the first one (taken in portrait mode) is flipped.

Even worse is if you take pictures of ladders in portrait mode.

Why can't the software do the same as the windows 10 file manager?

Down load them first. Then you can do what you want. I have not found a way to do it while on the forum.

EXACTLY as Tractor Seabee says. So I go on a thread - I want to post a pic on that thread. I minimize the page with TBN on it. I open > Applications > iPhoto > find the pic > drag and drop it on the desktop > do whatever I want to do to it with my software > make sure the resulting "massaged" pic is on the desktop > reopen the web page with TBN on it and go ahead thru the procedures necessary to post the pic on TBN.

Any "Vertical/portrait" picture I post on TBN will show in my post as horizontal. However - when you click on this horizontal pic - it will open back to its normal configuration - vertical.

At first I would fight it - there is no need to - the way it looks when it opens is the important issue.

All 4 displayed rightside up after holding control and left clicking, to show in a new Tab.

But how does the software determine which way is up?
Especially the ladders example.
And why can't it do it right the first time?

There is information embedded in the picture from your camera or phone regarding the original orientation. In some instances, this forum software gets it right. In others, not so much. As George mentioned, I've also noticed that it's never an issue when using the Advanced Editor. If, however, I just insert a pic in the Quick Reply box, any picture I have taken in portrait mode on my iPhone gets automatically rotated 90° in the post, yet opens correctly in another tab. Weird.
