Got a late start on this plot, no rain when I wanted to plant. Still yet, the turnips and rye are doing great. I had a partner today when digging a few turnips for the table. If I didn't know better, I'd think he likes turnips.

Looks like a good crop... Did you harvest anything else from that patch??? My friend put turnips in his deer food plots and it worked very well for him that I'll most like follow in his steps... :thumbsup: We did eat several turnips... Do you have a good recipe?

I took a nice doe in mid October with a bow, buddy got another one on second day of gun season in early November. We've left it alone since then, and will hunt it the last 2 weeks of the season in January. As far as a recipe, I like to simmer them in chicken broth, or peel the smaller ones and eat raw. But I heard tell that if you slice them like potatoes, and fry em up in bacon drippings, :licking:. Mark

Looks good, bet the deer starting hitting it after they sweetened up. Last year I had purple top turnips that were huge, got the right amount of rain when we needed it. When I took a picture of them next to a quarter it made the quarter look like a tiny dime.

Hard to believe how a seed so small gets so large. Especially with a good amount of nitrogen when planting.

Nice looking patch of turnips, nice looking dog too. But, I do not need to look at your profile to see that you're a Northerner tho, your 5gal bucket contains only the roots.

Here in the South, turnips are a revered Fall crop, and we eat the tops and roots cooked together, usually with some kind of pork, ham hocks or pork backbones/neckbones works best.

If you like eating the roots, you'll love eating the tops and roots together, the pork flavors the greens so there's not bitter taste and the "liquor" is phenomenal, eaten alone or ove rice.
