Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1533
Today we took delivery of our MF1533 12x12 syncro shuttle, industrial tires equipped 1525 front loader with quick attach mounts. We also got a 6' box grading blade and a set of pallet forks. It's our first tractor and we've got to get used to operating it still but we've needed one for a long time so there's lots of work to be done here to get well aquainted with the tractor. I did a little grading on some our gravel drive today and am very happy with it so far. I took this picture of my wife on it shortly after it arrived. Even let her drive it around put it in the garage, figured I better since it was the proceeds from the sale of her home that helped buy it!

You may have made your first major mistake on day one. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You let your wife drive the tractor, now she may never let you have it back. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think that you will be very happy with the new addition to the family. It won't be no time until you will be saying, "I don't know how we every got along with out a tractor". It truly is amazing what can be done with one and how simple they make so many difficult jobs.
Good Luck with it.

Yep! That's an Agco ST34A with different trim all right. Looks good, especially the height to the top of the ROPS. My AGCO booklet says that's 81" with the R1 tires. Could you measure how tall yours is? I'm limited in height to 84" and still undecided about what tires would be best for running around in the woods and cleaning the barnyard, all on pretty good slope. I want traction, but also toughness.

If you decide that isn't just the right machine, you can PM me and I'll be happy to come and steal it some night. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Congratulations! Welcome to the new baby. I was just at the dealer the other day and purposefully avoided looking at the new 1500 series because I think I'd be too tempted. It'd be quite a step up for me, but sometimes I really wish I had a bigger tractor (yup, everyone here who warns of that is right!). Thanks for posting, please keep doing so, especially with pics!

About the only time that you would or might have a problem with R-1s is if you have a problem with stobs. I have never punctured a rear tire, but have the fronts a few times. If it is slick and slimy, the R1s are the only way to go. They are the ultimate traction on level ground as well as on side slopes.

Thanks for the comments about the tractor. I was going to get out there with it to start doing some grading today but unfortunately it rained all night and it's too muddy to do it today. I'll go out this afternoon and measure the heighth to the top of the ROP. Next year I think I'll check my wife out on our grasshopper mower and let her do some mowing. I like getting out there to mow but I've got so many projects to finish up that if I get a little help now and then it will sure make it easier. John

I got the tractor out for a bit this evening and moved a little gravel around with it. Using the FEL to move it sure beats using a shovel and wheelbarrow like I've been doing! So far I really like the tractor, only thing I'm having a little trouble with is the control for the FEL. When using the FEL having that joystick right there next to you is great but for some reason when I turn around to look behind me when grading I have a tendency to hit the joystick and operate the loader. It's something that's just going to take a little time to get used to. John

Hey John,
You younger guys have all the luck! Your havin trouble with that joystick, well my old MF 1040 has the seperate controls for lift and bucket rotation. But heck, it still beats a shovel and wheelbarrow /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think bumping the joystick with my leg issue is just something that will take some getting used to, maybe positioning my foot on the throttle in a slightly different way or something like that. I've got some back and neck problems now that make it a little hard for me to turn the other direction far enough to work easily (probably from spending the last month moving gravel around with a shovel and wheelbarrow but the days of doing that are now over /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ). I really like the tractor and I'm happy with my decision to get it over the other tractors I looked at. Now I've just got to get a post hole digger, PTO mixer, bushhog, and you know how it is the list goes on and on! One thing I need in the near future though is to make up a set of work lights so I can see to operate the FEL at night and to see behind me.

Nice looking tractor JCS. I'm in the market for one about that size myself and thought that the MF looked like what I wanted. Would it be rude to ask what you had to give for that 1533 with a loader? And who you purchased it from in KY? I'm in TN right on the KY boarder.

Dalhan,
I bought the tractor from Ben & Elmers Tractor Company in Glasgow KY. They wanted $19,200.00 but we got them down to $18,600.00. They had a 1533 they would have sold for $17,600.00 but it had a 8x8 trans and a Bush hog FEL. I believe that going to the 12x12 trans with the power shuttle added about $900 to my price. The quick attach (skid steer) setup added another $300.00. The balance was the difference in price between the Bushhog FEL and the MF1525 FEL. They didn't have the tractor I wanted in stock but transferred it from another dealer and added the loader, only took about 5 days.

Dalhan,
I also should mention that the lower price quoted on the 8x8 with Bush hog FEL didn't include filling the tires and I believe that it included AG tires, not the Industrials that we got.

That is a very nice looking tractor. The tractor looks big for a 33 hp. I like it. The new 1500 series looks awesome to me. The price you paid sounds very good. Nice large affordable tractor. Whats not to like! Congrats!!

How did you get your wife on the tractor? Mine won't have anything to do with the tractor or the land!

28Red,
I guess I'm lucky, my wife likes to do work on the property and structures here. She hasn't driven the tractor much yet but wants to get more comfortable operating it so she can use it some next year to spread seed, fertilizer and some stuff like that. The day the tractor was delivered was the first time she'd ever driven a tractor, and the first time she'd driven any kind of vehicle with a manual transmission. John
