Nice setup! I am looking at the same and have a question on the hyd. shuttle for mowing w/a finish mower. I have an HST right now and have never used a hyd. shuttle, do you have to shut the mower down to stay "throttled up" and make a turn. I guess I am confused how you would keep your 540 rpms on the mower and stop the tractor. I really like the HST transmission and dont really understand the hyd. shuttle.

the grill guard that normally comes with a loader won't work. the one stu needs allows for the weights to be taken off or put on. the regular one doesn't have enough clearence for the weights. in the summer when i am doing hay, i take the loader off and put the weights on. also when i'm brush- hogging. when i put the loader back on, i can take the weight's off but leave the front weight bracket on. the weights have to come off for clearence for the loader. hope that makes sence.

Tractor is at the dealership having the Grill Guard and front weights installed. I'm also having the dealer widen the rear tires from 60" on center to 64", and to widen the front tires as well.

I have a similar question... I have a L3430 HST. I use it to haul boats around my marina. Is an Hyd. Shuttle tractor easy to manuver - backing up, turning and raising the 3 pt. hitch at the same time - Any info would be great...

Bill,

Here are a few I took in Feb right after the Grill Guard was added, and the Rears were widen'd to 64" on center.

Glad I had the new grill guard installed as I am now planning to install the LA1153 loader this summer.

Yes I think the Hyd Shuttle is pretty easy to manuver with.....but I don't think I'd want to use it to move boats around a marina if I had the HST option.

The Hyd shuttle works great for open field type work and but is not something I would want to use for day to day tight manuvering with.

Just my 2 cents.

How does the 5040 handle the 8' cutter? Any hills or problems so far. I have a mx5100 and was curious if it could handle an 8' cutter

It doesn't even know it's back there! Mine is the 3pt version, but you can also get a Pull type, and some offer a Semi-Mount version of 8' cutters. I don't have a FEL so I added about 500lbs of front weights. I can't help you with whether or not your MX5100 can handle a 8' cutter....but lots of folks on here own a MX5100 and maybe they can answer.
