Okay I just reread and realized the OP is wanting auto shift which I think is great.

8LL would also be good for his off road low speed needs. 8 road speeds and two double reduction.

Gotta watch govt.planet for these. They only run the Cat 3126 with allison a/t, but central tire inflation is a cool thing 😆.
Do you get Lancaster farming? Over the same direction there's Martin's farm trucks.

Neat Stewart Stevenson, but I couldn’t do anything with that truck.

I don’t need a ton of power and don’t need a ton of gears, either. I’m not in a big hurry and with the high and low range transfer case, I will have more gears and gear reduction than I know what to do with.

I need traction and easy to drive so I can get in/out of hay fields with loads of hay and the occasional load of logs from dropping trees around fields and to pull a trailer of hay or maybe a pice of equipment.

8LL would be outstanding. A10 speed with the proper finals would be very good too.
Good grief….I’m done with shifting.
Why would I shift gears manually, especially when off road and lose all my turbo boost and RPM when an Allison automatic will keep me moving and keep me from getting stuck?
Manual transmissions are from stone ages when you compare them to today’s modern Allisons, Fuller autoshifts and CAT, etc. automatics.

Military uses them in all their trucks, and they need off road traction

I can't fathom why you need 4wd to haul bales out of a hayfield. Or anyone being able to make hay there again after you tear the sod all up and rut the fields all to hell. And how do you get hay dry enough to bale with all that soil moisture that is requiring you to have 4wd? Or doesn't mushroom hay have to be dry? The entire premise is absurd to me. But hey, what do I know? Back to post #13. Wants and needs. Have fun.

That’s what I was thinking but I’m assuming he’s making winter time deliveries.

To the unfathomable lol:
I have to access some fields by driving “off road”. Bringing them out to the road to load is not an option.
Yes we make a good deal of mushroom hay (and feed hay) on not wet, but let’s say less than dry, and very hilly conditions.
Also planning on a flatbed mounted spreader to spread fields in the future. Will use truck to spread my fields which cover many miles in different directions. I don’t know if this will actually happen, but it might.

Heck fellers, guys driving around in F550/GM 5500/ Ram 5500’s with 4WD all the time. You get all freaked out about the next size truck being 4WD like it’s got 2 heads or something lol

Might help you guys to realize not one size fits all.
