Well Bob, here is the pages from the Perkins engine manual.
Notice that 6-10 make up the fill cup to the reservoir to lubricate the oil pump. The oil reservior is shown and unnamed.
On the next page, item 7 is the pump housing also shown are the pump shaft and seals.
My question after reading the 704 manual, that says to use a Calcium Grease to lube the water pump seal and then finding the reservoir empty. Is the reservoir empty because no one added the grease or is the grease no longer used? What to do? The answer is that the antifreeze has lube in it and the grease is not needed. So why the reservoir? It would cost more to re-engineer the engine than it is worth.
