I'm considering an auger (9", I guess......) from TSC. I can catch one on sale for $109.... I know nothing about the quality of their augers, but FWIW, this auger won't get much use.... :confused3:

Honestly, theirs are as good as any. The parts are mostly interchangeable between brands. When you buy a big name brand you 'can' get a better gearbox, but even then most are the same sort of China stuff. There are also various "features" such as hydraulic downforce that can be had. If I'm not mistaken, the TSC PDHs are rebranded Speco, which are good.

My 12" farm store auger did 10ish acres of holes fine. Needed 1 or 2 new sets of teeth, but they are wear items. The holes at the top for the mounting pins were starting to waller out a bit, but not to badly & repairable if it got worse.

I now have a 12" that was 3x the price for my new hydraulic PHD. It's a much beefier auger for a 2" hex drive rig as opposed to the lighter 2" round drive. I use the new gear semi-commercially so a stronger auger is worth it now. I would be fine buying a farm store auger for my 5 acre personal project if I had to do it over again.

Thanks fellas! I'm sure the TSC auger will be OK for what I'm doing.....
