Considering a used DC 40 for my Kabota 2710. Interested to hear comments about the chipper, specifically experiences chipping fresh Hemlock, White Pine and spruce.
Concerned that the cutters may not clear the dense needles effectively.

I have one. You are correct, chipping evergreens can be a challenge.

It can be done, it just takes a little planning. I took down a 40' spruce and chipped all the brush from it. The trick is to "limb the limbs" so to speak. By that I mean on any branch over a couple of inches in diameter or 3 feet long, clean the brush off it with the saw before chipping.

The idea is to feed the small stuff until the chipper starts clogging, and then give it a big stick to "clear it's throat".

Other than that, I've been very favorably impressed with the machine. On clean stuff, it self-feeds very effectively, and will eat anything I feed it without a whimper.
