They had to walk briskly to get to the last electric scooter available. It's funny how there were no electric scooters around when I was a kid and the world still went around. Of course I also don't recall handicapped parking places either.
The other weekend I was at Floor and decor. Long story, had to wait for them to find the tile they said they had.

They had a electric scooter plugged in the wall. I was like a kid in a candy store looking at wanting to ride it around. I even sat in the seat looking at the controls, but saw my wife still waiting for help looking at me. I decided to get off it.

Honestly, if you're at the point where you need to borrow a stores "scooter" to get around to go shopping, it's either time to give up the ghost or find another avenue to shop.

The only people I've noticed on scooters are obese people who really should be walking IMO.

I know, I know...pituitary gland issue and chronic pain. My bad.

I'm not gonna argue the point of obesity because most people that are obese have brought it upon themselves with bad choices. However with that said, it sure sounds like you are implying that when someone's mobility goes down it's time to call in the "death panels" and dispatch them. Should all people with disabilities just stay hidden so that you are not reminded about the possibility that bad things can happen to you at some point? Even with my disability, which hopefully will be better after major surgery, I still contribute significantly and see no reason to withdraw from society. Man you sure have a cold outlook on humanity.

Yes there are people who abuse these things, but there always have been and always will be. A couple years ago, my wife appreciated having use of one of those when she was recovering from foot surgery.

Don't be so judgemental.

Guys (including Turbo)

All I am pointing out is that pretty much anytime I see anyone in a scooter in a store, they are obese (generally not "old"). In their defense, I also stated they most likely have a pituitary gland issue and are in chronic pain.

Like I said, I could take a vet parking place in a box store, but I don't because I figure someone needs it more than I because I don't need to park close. If you need a store scooter to get around, not for my to judge, just and observation on most of the people using them that I see.

On a side-note, if my wife was recovering from foot surgery, I'd be doing her shopping so she wouldn't have to deal with it ;)

I don't view being obese as to having a disability.

When my father needed a walker, we bought him one because he'd never buy it on his own. Guess what, he used it all the time. No different than the wheel chair we bought him because if he went shopping, even with the walker, it was getting to tiresome for him, so we pushed him in the wheel chair so he could get "out".

When I was recovering from my cardiac arrest I WANTED to go to the store with my wife. It made me feel a bit more normal. Even though I needed the assistance of the scooter. And I am not oversight in fact my Dr is telling me to gain weight.

In a world where you can be anything be kind.

A year ago I was hiking up the mountains in Utah and going for four hour climbs on my bike, currently there are days that I struggle to walk a few hundred feet.
That was me when I turned 39... I didn't know WHAT was going on. In just a couple of months I went from snowshoeing and swinging an axe all day long 7 days a week, to needing to sit down after walking downstairs in the morning. In my case it was just a bad thyroid, and I've been taking a pill every day ever since.

It sounds like you have a permanent disability... hopefully that isn't the case.

But... why do you care? It's pretty dang rare that people abuse the system (kinda like election fraud). Every big box store has a dozen empty handicap spots out front, someone might as well use them if they have even just a minor disability.

Really not your problem, a pointless thing to get worked up about. It doesn't affect you.
Although I rarely agree with tradosaurus, in this case I don't think he's getting worked up about anything. He's simply stating a fact that the handicap parking issue is abused. Daily. At the stores you frequent. He's just voicing an aggravation with that abuse.
