Because they can't see without the vision assistance in the vehicle?

Why are you so worried about whether or not somebody is handicapped? Rather, try being thankful that you are not.
Because I don't like people taking advantage of the system. There are those truly handicapped that could use the spaces so now stores have to have many more handicapped spots just to accommodate those gaming the system.
I'm 57 and I would be embarrassed applying for a handicapped placard unless I absolutely could barely walk or was wheelchair bound.

If a car is ever made again with swiveling seats, I will buy one.

My buddy had one back in the 70's. Chevy Monte Carlo? His older relatives liked it.
A friend had an Olds Cutlass with the swivel driver’s seat back the mid ‘70s. Pretty cool. I don’t recall if the passenger side did too.

If I know I will be pushing a shopping cart or buggy in the store I try to park near the cart return corral. I’m going to wind up at it anyway. Makes finding my car easier too. :)
Yes, I always park next to a cart return for those two reasons...

1. Makes returning the cart easier.
2. I only have a dozen or so places to look if I forget where I parked! :ROFLMAO:

Did it ever occur to any of you that the bad vision provision is there so that someone can drive the blind person to the store, park near the door, and help them into the store???

Or are you going to expect them to drive up, kick the blind person out of the car, and tell them to stand there while you go park the car in a spot far away and walk back to get them? No. That's ridiculous.

Indiana has some pretty sensible laws regarding who can be issued a hang tag, or a license plate.

There are those truly handicapped....

By your past comments, my mother in-law should hike it in from the boonies because you can't observe any obvious physical problems with her. She can't breath.

Some qualifying reasons in Indiana...

A disability parking placard may be issued to a person who is certified by a health care provider as having:

  • A permanent or temporary physical disability requiring the use of a wheelchair, a walker, braces, or crutches;
  • Permanently or temporarily lost the use of one or both legs;
  • A permanent or temporary severe restriction in mobility due to a pulmonary or cardiovascular disability, arthritic condition, or orthopedic or neurological impairment; or
  • Permanent or temporary blindness or visual impairment.

Just because you can get a handicapped placard doesn't mean you should. Based on my limited observation at work and at stores probably 80% shouldn't park in handicapped spots.

If you aren't using a cane or in a wheelchair you don't need the placard.
But... why do you care? It's pretty dang rare that people abuse the system (kinda like election fraud). Every big box store has a dozen empty handicap spots out front, someone might as well use them if they have even just a minor disability.

Really not your problem, a pointless thing to get worked up about. It doesn't affect you.

I do it because you can park tight to the return rack and avoid getting door dings.

I normally park a ways out in the lot and walk in. I hate being in a tight parking spot and I sure wouldn't park tight on purpose.
