This seems logical. Stack them up so they don't get forgotten and run over. he will pick them up later, stack them on a wagon or something when the hay feeding season is over to reuse later.

try to guess if they are 100 ft apart. if you see pallets kinda lined up in a row or circleish it can give you the range for bow hunting. A hunter does simalar thing on my fathers land.

We appear to have a faction that is coalescing around the theory that the pallets are used to keep hay bales off the ground.

To play the Devil's advocate, I will argue that this "Hayist" faction is delusional.

First, let us review the facts as we know them.

I have noticed over the past few years that the local farm fields get populated with a pair of pallets leaned up against each other to form a inverted V shape. they are always out near the middle of the field, in a line, and about 500 to 700 feet apart.

Now during the Spring and Summer they are nowhere to be seen, and in late Fall they are out there again. As far as I know (not having been out in the middle of these fields) from driving by every day there is nothing out there that needs protection such as a irrigation pipe, so I can not figure out what purpose they serve. No one is out in those fields over the winter to do damage to anything except maybe some one riding their snowmobile if we get measurable snow which is not too common here.

These appearon multiple farms. Crops vary from tomatoes, soybean, and others but I did notice that none of the fields used for corn this past season have them.

1. If the pallets are used to protect hay bales in the field, would we not expect to see bales on the pallets sometime during the course of the year?

The witness does not report having seen the pallets being used in this fashion.

2. If the pallets are used to protect hay bales in the field, would we not expect the fields to be planted in crops used to produce hay?

The witness reports the pallets are seen in fields used to grow tomatoes and soybeans. Are we to believe that farmers are using tomatoes and soybeans for hay?

3. If the pallets are used to protect hay bales in the field, would we not expect to see consolidated storage occurring at the edge of the hay fields or areas adjacent to pastures/feedlots for the purpose of minimizing assembly and distribution costs?

The witness reports the pallets appear in pairs in the middle of fields and are 500-700 feet apart.

Silly Hayseeds.

I still vote for hunting blinds, they appear in the Fall. Temporary so they don't interfere with farming. Drape some camo screen over them and wait for the deer or turkeys to come out of the tree line. Might even get passing Canada geese if soybeans or corn were planted.

Marking the irrigation connection point, but why not a flag or simple marker? Or to drop off the bags of seed for planting in the spring?

Or the government WPP - wildlife protection program - shelters for wayward birds

I think its either a drain marker (but we don't see any drains), a trail marker for where he wants a snowmobile trail to be marked once it snows, or a distance marker for some sort of project. Or its minimalist art project.
